For the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Australia, a 343-bed, not-for-profit private hospital
in Wahroonga, a suburb of Sydney, the decision to implement Agfa HealthCare’s NX
solution was easy. One of the hospital’s key aims is to stay in the forefront of new
technology, in order to continue to improve patient service and efficiency.
Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, Australia
“As a hospital, we like to keep up-to-date with the
technologies that are available to the profession
so we can improve our service,” says Andrew
Featherstone, General Senior Radiographer.
“With the NX system, we’ve improved the quality
of our radiology images, and our user interface is
now significantly more efficient.” Known locally
as the ‘San’, the hospital provides acute care and
offers all diagnostic and therapeutic services

(who assist with interventional procedures),
the department conducts between 50,000 and
60,000 radiology exams each year.

identification and quality control software tools,
in March, 2006, as part of a clinical trial. Shortly
after the successful conclusion of the six-week trial,
the hospital ordered a second NX workstation.
For Andrew Featherstone, who manages the San’s
general X-ray section (including the fluoroscopy
room and theater cases), workflow improvements
were the primary reason for the acquisition of the
two systems. “The NX is more efficient and user
friendly. It eliminated some of the steps that were
