the beginning, when Fairview was established in
1943,
the goal has always been a continuum of
care,” says Fred Zehr, Administrator of Independent
Living Services. “We established a multilevel service
program that allows younger seniors, older seniors,
seniors who are in the retirement home, seniors who
are in long-term care and seniors from the community
to fully utilize the services available in our Elderly
Persons Centre and through our Wellness Centre.”
Along with the home’s 200 apartment units, 46
assisted living suites, and 84 beds for seniors in long-
term care, Fairview also partners with other homes to
develop day programs for developmentally disabled
adults, allowing the use of Fairview’s services like its
wellness center which includes a warm water therapy
pool and fitness centre. “This allows organizations
who may not have those kinds of amenities available
to be able to come here and use them on a regular
basis, and we can feel good that our space is being
fully utilized” says Zehr.
