are not just for scientists. In fact, most are jobs for
people with skills in manufacturing, IT, sales &
marketing and other fields, and a large percentage
are jobs for workers with a BA or less.
But the Center’s investments are also about
advancing good science, improving health care for
patients and reducing health care costs. A substantial
portion of our portfolio represents investments in
translational research with strong potential for
commercialization.
Over the past four years, the Center committed
over $13 million in matching grants to academic
institutions and for collaborations between academia
and industry. Our investments have been matched
dollar-for-dollar by those institutions or by company
sponsors, creating a total investment of more than
$26 million to support innovate life sciences research.
We also are supporting young companies that are
starting in Massachusetts. The Center has awarded
$11.2 million in Accelerator loans to twenty
