in implantation of stents. Almost two years ago, the
company acquired Light Imaging Lab, a pioneer in the
development of intravascular imaging systems. “We do
not manufacture or market stents, but we manufacture
two products that are literally related to that area. It is
a device that is inserted via a catheter which shows the
size of the damage of a possible occlusion, assisting in the
placement of the stent, called intravascular image system.
The quality of the screen of this system is very high,”
describes Pitta. It also reveals “reports published in the
United States which demonstrate the importance of this
type of visualization to improve the display of stents.”
Another product in the field of Interventional
Cardiology provided by St. Jude is used to measure the
difference of pressure before and after the occlusion.
This is a device that is usually acquired for the study
prior to the stent placement. The doctor assures a good
location of the stent, and offers greater control in the
evaluation of complex coronary lesions,” Pitta says.
