GROUNDED ROOTS
Shaw healthcare has its roots in the Secondary
Housing Association for Wales (SHAW), founded
almost 30 years ago by Nixey himself as a means
of promoting 10 regional housing associations.
Becoming increasingly frustrated by governmental
constraints, Nixey made the decision to split off
the ancillary care activities and form a completely
separate enterprise.
Originallymanaging just 350 carebeds, transferred
to it fromvarious healthauthorities, Shawhas steadily
grown fromrelatively small beginnings tonow
encompass over 2,200beds acrossmore than80 facilities.
